Going Green

I've been more and more convicted lately about being more "green". I suppose that living in Vancouver for 3 years had something to do with it, but the more I read and watch lately the more convinced I am that something has to change in the way we live day to day.

For me it's not only an environmental issue. I believe when God gave us this earth and told us to take care of it He didn't mean "do whatever you want and don't think about the consequences". I really feel that for me being aware of how what I do affects the rest of creation is an issue of faith as well. So here's to a fresh start for the summer. I'll try to keep this updated with how I do.

Also, stay tuned for an 8 month update on my not so little baby soon...

Water Baby

We've been spending most of our time out and about now that summer is here. Now that Jacob is down to 2 naps he's on a pretty set schedule which makes planning outings a lot easier. We have a pretty decent lake 3 minutes from our house which is GREAT, I antipcipate spending many mornings there this summer! I thought I would share a few of our recent "beach" excursions with you!

J was a bit nervous of the water at first but quickly warmed up to it and had a great time playing and walking around in it!

Enjoying an "ice Popsicle" while swimming.... guess mommy ignores 1 hour wait rule for eating and swimming....

Enjoying his favorite toy he borrowed from his cousin Annika... seriously he takes it everywhere with him...

Ignore all the random Barbies in the background!

First time swimming with cousin Annika (Jacob does that look a lot around her lol)

Yay! I love walking in the water!

Hope you all are having a great summer!

7 Months

Wow! Has it really been 7 months since I gave birth to this sweet beautiful boy? I cannot believe how quickly time flies!!

Jacob this month we have seen you grow and develop into your own little personality more than any other month. You're starting to have favorite toys, games, and foods. This is actually the first month that you have really started "playing" with your toys. You love picking them up, chewing on them, banging them on the ground and waving them in the air! Your current favorites are Sophie, your teething keys and your "skwish".

You are sitting so well now, but every once and awhile when you get excited you forget that there's nothing behind you and fly straight backwards!

You've continued to be a great eater and so far have tried: Brown rice, oatmeal, pears, applesauce, bananas, sweet potato, squash, and avocados. So far your favorites are sweet potato and banana, but you are excited to eat at just about every mealtime. I've been making all of your food (which is actually a lot easier than I thought, thanks to the magic bullet!)

You LOVE books! You could sit and look at your books for ages. I think you may just be a bookworm like your mom:)

If you could be doing anything it would be standing. You've been able to support yourself on an object for awhile now and the other day you started shimmying sideways while standing in your crib, and actually stood for a few seconds with no support. Mommy is not ready for a walker anytime soon, so I hope you stay at this stage for awhile:)

You are definitely an outdoor boy, and are so happy playing in the backyard or going to the park. I'm glad it's summer time, and am hoping for lots of sunny days to play outside!

As much as you LOVE standing you HATE being on your stomach! This is the face I usually get when I put you down for "tummy time". I have tried everything (rolled up towels, a mirror, getting down and distracting you) but guaranteed you will start to get upset within 5 minutes of being "face down". That being said you are still getting stronger and have started to pull up and get on your hands.

Your 7th month also bought your very first cold. It only last 24 hours but you had one miserable night with a fever and stuffed up nose and very little sleep! We are so blessed to have a healthy little boy!

You seem to have worked your self into a nice little routine. You go to bed between 630-7pm and tend to sleep 11.5-12 hours at night (Praise the Lord). You still take 3 naps for the most part (1.5-2 hours in the morning, 45minutes - 2 hours in the afternoon (we're still working on getting a consistent afternoon nap) and a short 30 minute cat nap before dinner.) 2-2.5 hours is about all we can get out of you before you're ready for your next nap.
I haven't had you weighed since your 6 month apt. but it seems like you've really grown a lot since then! You wear 6-9 month clothes for the most part (although you still fit into all of your 3-6 month pants) and 12 month sleepers.

I can't believe I'll have a 1 year old in 5 months!! Yikes!

Visit to Newfoundland

We had a short but great trip to Newfoundland this weekend to visit Adam's parents! It's always so relaxing when were there and this time was no exception! After the long day's we've been putting in around the house it was so nice to spend a few days with no plans, good food, and great company!

WE ate fantastically while we were there and I'm sure I gained a few more unwanted pounds between Alma, Keith and Brenda's great cooking! Perhaps I will wear a muumuu this summer instead of a bathing suit:)

Jacob did great traveling. Adam and I calculated that he has now been on 10 different flights... quite the world traveler at such a young age. I was worried he wouldn't sleep well in a different house/crib, but he slept through the night all 3 nights and napped pretty well too! Yay for good sleep... I have been much better rested now that J is sleeping through the night again!

Now that we're back we really are "back to the grind". Adam started his job on Tuesday and has been going full force prepping to preach this Sunday! I have been wondering around the house aimlessly trying to figure out where to put everything that we have yet to find a place for.... wish me luck it seems this "moving" process is unending some days...

Hope you all had a great weekend!!:)

This afternoon we're about to embark on Jacob's 9th flight in 6 months! What a little traveler he is already! We will be in Newfoundland visiting Adam's parents for the weekend and hopefully will be able to give some updates when we're there!!
Have a great weekend!

A Late 6 month update

So, technically Jacob has been 6 months for awhile now, but since it occurred on my blogging hiatus I thought I would do a quick update:)

April was a pretty nice month so we spent all of our non-packing days outdoors! Jacob has discovered a love for all things outdoors, especially grass and sand!

As of this weekend he is finally at a place where I can sit him down and know he probably won't fall down (I use lots of pillows around him after an unfortunate head plant into the hardwood floors). It seems like he is growing in leaps and bounds these days. He is getting much better and reaching out and grabbing things around him (including my hair and our noses).

He also loves banging anything he has in his hands, and dropping things on the floor and then demanding that we pick them up again (something I'm hoping won't become a habit!).

Jacob's sixth month had us moving across the country and I have to say, I have no plans to do that with a baby again! He did great on all the flights, however was too busy looking around at everyone and smiling to sleep very much.

Speaking of sleep this month he also decided to take a 3 1/2 week break from sleeping through the night. It was definitely hard on me to be getting up 1-2 times at night after I had gotten used to a full nights sleep! This last week we seem to have made a turnaround though, as he has slept 12 hours straight the last 5 nights (with the exception of one amazing 14 hour sleep). I'm REALLY hoping this keeps up because I don't seem to have time to nap these days!

We've also seen a huge take off in Jacob's "talking" these days! The current sounds he makes are "mama" "baba" "dada" "wawa" and most recently "gaga". He's starting to mix the sounds together and I love hearing him talking to him self on the baby monitor as he's going to sleep. He also has discovered an obsession with his lips and tongue and is constantly blowing raspberries, especially if he has the attention of a pretty girl!

We were lucky to find a pediatrician in Halifax who so far seems good! At his 6 month checkup his "stats" were: Weight - 17 lbs 3 oz (40%) Height 27.7 inches (80%) and I can't remember his head circumference, but I remember it was pretty high on the chart!

Jacob continues to be a pretty laid back baby overall. He has lots of expressions and LOVES to laugh at Adam and I. These last 6 months have FLOWN by and we can't wait to experience the next 6, just don't grow up too quick on us sweetheart!

Back at it!

We are finally starting to feel more settled at our new place, which means I finally have some time for blogging again!

We had a great long weekend. Adam's dad came down and helped us do a TON of work around the house. Seriously, I have never met anyone as multi-talented and efficient as Keith. We are now hooked up with a new (to us... I love kijiji:) washer and dryer, a new hot water heater, fresh paint, and about a million other odds and ends! While Adam and Keith were busy working Jacob and I spent a lot of time outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather. Monday we spent the day with our good friends Geoff and Carolyn (who also happens to be Adam's cousin) and their daughter Annika. We had a picnic lunch at the park by our house and then went over to their place for some yummy BBQ'd steak! It's been great being back in Halifax and so close to them! It's too cute watching the two babies play!

I'll leave you with a load of pictures from the weekend and a promise for some more consistent blogging:)

Hope you all had a great long weekend!
