Happy labor day!

Weekends don't really mean much when you're a pastors wife but I was so looking forward to this one! Adam got a friend of his to preach and I was looking forward to actually spending a Saturday with him and the kids outdoors (since it was supposed to be sunny on a day he was actually taking off!)

Well you know how when you pray for patience what happens?? I have been praying God will help be be gracious and understanding with the unpredictable schedule that comes with being a pastors wife. Crisis's (is that a word?) happen and that is just part of the job. Well I guess I was being tested because I don't think I saw Adam for more than an hour all weekend until Sunday afternoon:). And surprisingly I did ok with it! I'm learning that if you're only going to see your husband for a few hours it's much more enjoyable if your not spending it irritated that things weren't happening how you planned!

That being said we are enjoying having Adams good friend Jim (who is also J's God father) stay with us for a few days before he heads back to seminary. Jim is studying to be a catholic priest and I love to pick his brain! And we snuck in some much needed family time over pancakes this morning!

1 Corinthians 13

The Way of Love

1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2If I speak God's Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I don't love, I'm nothing. 3-7If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,

Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
8-10Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

11When I was an infant at my mother's breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.

12We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

13But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

It's that time again

My little baby is growing up. I don't know about you all, but I feel like time with baby 2 has flown by way quicker than it did with Jacob. I can't imagine how fast it must go for mama's of 3 or more!

The other night when we were at a friends place I was letting Charis chew away on my knuckle (the child has to have something in her mouth at all times!). I thought I felt something sharp, but dismissed it since she's 4.5 months old and couldn't possibly be cutting teeth yet - after all her brother was almost 9 months old before he cut his first tooth!
This morning when I was changing her diaper, however, I thought I should take a peek in her mouth just to see if I saw anything poking up. Wouldn't you know there was the top of a little white tooth on her bottom gum! So there you have it, we have officially entered the teething phase and all that comes with it. I'm sure I can say good bye to 12 hour nights and 2 hour naps huh? Consequently Jacob is just cutting his 2 year molars, so as one is ending the drawn out teething stage the other begins.

Next up - adventures of the big boy bed (which by the sounds of the baby monitor Is being used as a trampoline instead of for sleeping ... Guess I should check on that;)

Wow! So 2 babies under 2 equals one busy Mama - which means a poor neglected blog.

I hate not blogging, mostly because I use this blog as a scrapbook of our lives. So now that miss Charis is on a great little schedule I'm going to try to take more time out to blog again!

A Number Game

Using products that are safe for our bodies and the environment seems to becoming increasingly popular in our culture.  I have to admit that this makes my heart smile a little bit.  More and more natural parenting stores are popping up in Halifax, online deal sites are offering more natural alternatives (cloth diapers, organic fabrics, natural baby products, wooden toys), and cloth diapering and breast-feeding are becoming more of the norm than an alternative way of doing things.

Since being pregnant with Jacob I became increasingly aware as I was buying things or making lists for baby showers that I didn't want to be using products from companies who not only had  a bad reputation environmentally but also had a list of ingredients I couldn't pronounce much less be confident of what they were and how they would affect my baby.  So I stuck to the natural sections of grocery stores and bought things at natural baby stores.

This spring I was introduced to a site that brought much of my natural product idealism to a sudden halt.  Just because something says it's natural doesn't mean that there are no risks, or that it's even that good for you.  The cosmetic safety database rates products from a 0-10 with 10 being products which have the most ingredients for concern.  I was so sad to see that some of my favorite "natural" products I was using for J had ratings half way up the score chart.

The cosmetic safety database is a huge resource for people looking to check out the safety of the products you're using at home.  I know I feel much better knowing the products I'm using for J are rated a 0-1 instead of a 5 in the safety ratings!   So before you go out and buy things for yourself or your little one check it out on this site and see how well it ranks!
